I grew up on Big Tree Road. I went to Woodchuck Elementary, then the Iroquois Middle School. After 9th grade (1977) my family moved to Basking Ridge, NJ and I finished grades 10-12 there. I went to Allegheny College for my undergrad, and roomed with Jack Donner as a freshman. In college, I met my wife (Kate). We were married in 1986. I got a job right out of college for a company called Chubb, and lived in NJ for a couple of years before being transferred to Pittsburgh in 1987. We have lived in a town 15 minutes outside of Pittsburgh called Sewickley since that time. In 1991, Chubb tried to transfer us to Los Angeles, and we decided that we were no longer mobile, having already started to have children. I joined a small insurance/bonding/health benefits brokerage firm called Seubert & Associates at that time. I became an owner a few years later. Since '91, our firm has grown to be the largest independently owned brokerage firm in Western Pennsylvania, employing over a 100 people. I started coaching soccer, baseball and basketball in 1993. Over the past 17 years, I have coached most of the kids in our small community at one time or another. We live right in the heart of Sewickley and our house is the place where many of the kids come to hang out. Consequently, I got to know many of the families in town, which ultimately led me to become Mayor of Sewickley this year. Between work, our five children and the Mayoral responsibilities, I stay pretty busy.
As of this writing (12/21/09), our children are ages 21, 19, 18, 16 and 10. Two are in college and one is a senior in HS getting ready to go off to school. I often wonder where the time went. Kate and I are blessed with absolutely great children and they have kept both of us young.
We still have roots in the Western New York area. My brother, Mark, lives near Emery Park in East Aurora and his wife, Jolene, is the newly elected East Aurora Town Supervisor. Also, for the past 25 years, our family has owned a farm/quarry in Warsaw (near Letchworth State Park) and we have spent many a weekend there over the years.
Although I love Pittsburgh and Sewickley in particular, I still consider East Aurora home. I treasure the 15 years I lived there ('62 - '77) and often think about my childhood friends. It was a great place to grow up and I look forward to re-connecting with my old friends.
